Brass Ensemble Competition - Spring 2018

An online competition for brass ensembles consisting of 3 or more players of any combination of brass instruments. A cash prize is awarded to the winning ensemble of each level.

The competition has 3 levels:

  • Young Brass:

    8th grade or lower
  • Intermediate Brass:

    9th-12th grade
  • Advanced Brass:

*No professionals are allowed, defined as your primary source of income derived from live or recorded play.

Cash prizes will consist of:

  • Young Brass:

  • Intermediate Brass:

  • Advanced Brass:

* One cash price for the winner of each level as determined by the process described below

Entries are due May 15th, 2018 by 11:59 pm (UTC -06:00). Finalists are announced June 1st and winners will be announced June 15th.

How does the competition work?

1. Register for the competition in our online store and pay the registration fee ($40)

2. After you have successfully checked out, you will receive your confirmation email. Follow these steps:

  • Open your email, and setup your account on our T4 Music Mentor website.
  • Go to the Competition page that you registered for.
  • Check out the How-To video on the T4 Music Mentor - competition page. You will have to watch the whole video, before you can upload your performance.)

3. Practice and record your performance

  • Your performance must be recorded in one unedited take!!! You can record yourself as many times as you want until you have the one you like best, as long as you upload an unedited recording that was done in one single take. Edited videos will be disqualified.

4. Upload your performance on the T4 competition page

5. Vote on the other ensembles

Winners will be determined based on 2 parts.

1. Technical proficiency (70%).

Technical proficiency will be evaluated by the members of the Center Stage Brass and will be based on:

  1. Intonation
  2. Tone
  3. Rhythm
  4. Technique
  5. Interpretation
  6. Performance
  7. Musicality

2. Popular vote (30%).

At the end of each ensembles performance you get the option to vote on their performance.
